New NES Nike, Nintendo-themed Air Max

18 11 2008

nike-nintendo-air-max-hybrid-1Following in the footsteps of the NES Air Max BW mentioned here a couple of weeks ago, Nike will be dropping another Nintendo Air Max, this one a hybrid. Seeing aspects of a few different shoes including the he Air Max 90 and a Max Air panel, the shoe is a bit of a departure from the last NES Nike with regard to color, although it again has the sweet control pad pattern along the side. Available at select retailers. Thanks to HypeBeast.com for the picture.

Maria Sharapova to sign new endorsement?

18 11 2008

According to sources such as CNBC, Nike’s Finest Maria Sharapova may be nearing a deal to endorse Enlyten SportStrips, an electrolyte supplement that is something of a competitor to Gatorade (picture those Listerine Cool Mint Oral Strips and the scads of copycat products that came out a few years ago; except these provide you with electrolytes). Sharapova signed a deal with Gatorade in January of 2007 which paid her $900,000 annually over two years, but now that that deal is coming to an end, Gatorade had hoped to keep Sharapova on at a discounted rate, which did not please her.

Enter HealthSport, the parent company of Enlyten. In a deal that would give Sharapova an annual salary in excess of what Gatorade has offered as well as a piece of the company, Enlyten hopes to make Sharapova the face of their product (joining Jason Taylor as the only professional athletes on the Enlyten roster). While this is a solid business move for Enlyten, they might get some personal pleasure out of slighting Gatorade as well. Enlyten signed an endorsement deal a year ago with the Buffalo Bills, but when Gatorade got wind of it they went a-tattling to the NFL that they were signed on as the “official electrolyte replacement” of all NFL teams. Not only did this end Enlyten’s relationship with Buffalo, it put the kibosh on deals Enlyten had been working on with several other NFL teams. That battle has since moved to court and has yet to be resolved. Pics below from Nike.com.hk. Above is an Omega watch ad. I’ll take ten thousand.

Nike presents collectors Kevin Hunter and Mayor with their own Air Force 1

17 11 2008

kevin-hunter-air-force-1

Nike has once again teamed up with Innovation Kitchen to create two new Air Force 1’s. The extremely limited (as in 1 of each) shoes were made for noted collectors Kevin Hunter and Mayor. Hunters’s AF1 is Bentley-inspired, designed to match the color and style of his Bentley with a red, leather upper and Bently logos stitched into the shoe, while Mayor’s shoe was created to celebrate his 1000th pair of Air Force 1’s; his Air Force 1 has “1″ printed exactly 1000 times on the shoe. Even the boxes were detailed: Hunter’s shoes came in a wooden box built to match exactly the woodgrain interior of his Bentley. In case anyone was wondering how limited Mayor’s shoes are, his box had “1 of 1″ laser-etched into it.

Ahh to be so famous for liking shoes that Nike wants to make your own customized shoe for you. How sick are those red ones? That was a rhetorical question, but the answer is “very.” Pics from Nike.com

Air Jordan 1 Low Velcro

17 11 2008

air-jordan-1-low-velcroDon’t believe this has been mentioned on NikeBlog before, but Nike and Jordan Brand will be dropping the White/Black/Red Air Jordan 1 Low Velcro on November 28. This is a really sick shoe, with a classic color scheme, pretty true-to-its-roots design, but with the addition of laser-etching on the upper and the straps. I’m unsure if it’s the same pattern as on the Air Jordan XX, but it certainly looks similar. And considering that these—just like the Air Jordan 20—also have the red patent leather and black nubuck across the back, I’m guessing it’s probably the same. Anyway, Air Jordan 1 Low Velcro Release Date: November 28 (a Friday, oddly enough), retail: $100

Denver Nuggets Air Force 3

17 11 2008

nuggets_air_force_3Wow! Nike has dropped the most, er … interesting colorway yet of the Nike Air Force 3: Denver Nuggets colors. Well, the 80’s Nuggets anyway. Much like the retro Nuggets jersey, this probably falls into the “so ugly they’re attractive” category. These were released at select House of Hoops. Oregon Ducks Winged Uniforms: It Happened

17 11 2008

blackducksunisAs had been previously speculated on a certain informative, exciting and handsome website (ahem … nikeblog.com), the fashionistas of football the Oregon Ducks unveiled their new Nike black and feather uniforms Saturday, in a defensively-challenged affair at Autzen Stadium. As part of Oregon’s “blackout” Saturday, the Ducks wore black helmets, the black winged jerseys, and black pants. I could take or leave the wings, but the jerseys’ font and number-coloring are pretty rad against the black. The gunmetal black helmet is pretty cool as well. The Photo is by Mike Perrault of the Oregon Daily Emerald.

Nike Doernbecher Freestyle

14 11 2008

nike-doernbecher-freestyle-5-collection-01For the fifth consecutive year, Nike and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital have collaborated on the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle, a collection of shoes designed by kids who have overcome serious illnesses. The limited editions designed by each individual—as well as one done by Nike designer Mark Smith—were auctioned off, with the proceeds going to Doernbecher. Additionally, proceeds from the sales of the mass-produced shoes go to benefit the hospital as well. In total, the five-year old program has brought the children’s hospital nearly $2 million.

This year the shoes were designed by Tony Taylor (Air Jordan 1, auctioned for $12,500), Emily Giersch (Nike Free Mary Jane, $7000), Staci Wright (Nike Air Zoom Vomero+3, $20,000), Colin Couch (Nike Air Force 1-White/Laser-etched gold, $8000), Brandi Berger (Nike Air Force 1 White/Blue, $8000), and Mark Smith’s Air Max celebrating the 5 year anniversary. The shoes are currently available on NikeStore.com as well as Niketowns and some smaller stores with a Nike account.

Oregon Ducks Black Helmets

13 11 2008

blackduckshelmet

So the Oregon Ducks are most certainly going to wear the black Oregon helmet on the field Saturday against Arizona. This is good news for us Oregon fans who are hoping to see the feathered oregon jersey on the field, as it fits with the “black out” the Oregon athletic department is pushing. The helmets are black, with a green “O” and a dark green facemask. The black Oregon helmets will appear on “College Football Live” tomorrow at 12:30p. Pictures from GoDucks.com

“O-Fōn”- The Greg Oden Phone

13 11 2008

GregOdenoO-fon

Greg Oden has is own phone. Oden has teamed up with Cricket Wireless to create the O-Fōn, or the Cricket Greg Oden phone as people will most likely call it. Cricket wireless, a “leading provider of unlimited wireless services” (whatever that means. I guess it’s a polite way of saying “a company which does not remotely compare to AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon in size and scope”), will donate $80 from the sale of each phone to Oregon Mentors.

Along with the O-Fon, which has his jersey and signature laser-etched into the back, the Oden package will contain a Greg Oden Topps rookie card, coupons for Blazers merchandise and Cricket accessories, and text messages from Greg during the season. Ideally when he’s drunk and out at a bar hollering at biddies, but I suppose more likely it will be a text saying “thanks for supporting the team. I like Portland fans.” Anyway, retail is $279.99 and it’s available at Cricket stores throughout Oregon and southwestern Washington

Nike and Kanye West to release Nike Air Yeezy to general public

12 11 2008

nike-air-yeezyNike and Kanye West are set to release the Nike Air Yeezy in March of 2009, according to NikeAirYeezys.com. The shoe, which has so far been worn exclusively by Kanye West will see a national release to the general public next year. The inspiration for the shoe’s design is rumored to have come from the Air Jordan 3 (sole), Bape Roadsta (toe), and Ato Cow Hide Boot (enormous tongue and velcro strap). If only they could bump this release date up just … 5 months. Kanye’s new album, 808’s and Heartbreaks, has a release date of November 25th. With the success of his current single, Love Lockdown, and his typical flamboyant personality, you have to assume the new album will set the world on fire.

Anyway, to sum up: Nike Air Yeezy’s, release March 2009. 808’s and Heartbreaks, release date November 25th. Pictures from kicksaholic.com and nikeairyeezys.com
